The traditional librarian role has given way to a global demand for specialists who can deal with the creation, communication, location, evaluation, selection, acquisition, analysis, organization, storage, retrieval, preservation, management, dissemination and use of information.

Through our American Library Association-accredited program, Dominican students receive a comprehensive understanding of library and information science while also developing specializations to reach their individual career goals. Our Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree program is now one of the nation's largest and most successful. Graduates have gone on to leadership positions throughout the library field—as—archivists, reference specialists, teachers, researchers and administrators.

Our GSLIS Master of Professional Studies in Library and Information Science (MPS) degree is intended as a second master's degree to provide library, information, knowledge, archival and related professionals with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge in a particular area and/or undertake broader-based study in areas of interest that may cross disciplinary boundaries.

Our Doctor of Philosophy in Library and Information Science (PhD) is providing yet another way to help our students realize their leadership potential. Designed for working professionals, this unique program opens new doors to advanced careers in teaching, research and management.

Our expanded certificate program includes Archives and Cultural Heritage, Informatics, Knowledge Management, Special Studies and Youth Services. Designed to be earned in conjunction with the MLIS or as an advanced program for professionals.

As far as the program goes, really being able to take the information that you learned and apply it immediately...and the things we did in the classes were really good as far as being applicable to a daily basis…writing collection development policies...
