Awarded by a premier program, a degree in library and information science from Dominican
University comes with an understanding. The understanding is that upon graduation from the program,
individuals will have learned the necessary skills to be successful in the 21st century. We pride
ourselves on educating library leaders, those librarians and information specialists who will be
prepared to assume leadership positions in the field, whether it is in an academic setting or on
the front lines in practice.
What also makes our degree distinctly Dominican is the fact that for more than 80 years we have taken seriously the mission of the university and imbued that mission into all that we do and into all that we teach. Our graduates make a positive difference in their communities. Our nearness to Chicago allows us to draw upon the very best adjunct faculty to supplement the teaching by our excellent full-time faculty. It also allows us to place our students in meaningful practicum and internship situations in every type of information setting. As the only American Library Association-accredited program in Northern Illinois, we set the standard for an excellent education, and we are guided by an advisory board of nationally recognized leaders in the field. We invite you to explore our school. Susan Roman, PhD, Dean |
