When Palestine was approved for UNESCO membership in late 2011, U.S. funding for UNESCO was terminated. This has resulted in major challenges because the U.S. funding represented 22% of UNESCO’s budget. Barbara Ford will discuss the role of the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO to support worldwide humanitarian development values by coordinating efforts and delivering expert advice on issues of education, science, communications, and culture to the U.S. Department of State. Among the topics to be discussed will be digital information and preservation which support the development of inclusive knowledge societies and UNESCO's mission and are examples of issues that are of interest to the U.S. Commission.
Lecture begins at 6 pm, with a reception to follow. This event is free, with registration required.Lund Auditorium, Fine Arts Building
