Sister Mary Ellen O’Hanlon Essay Contest in Social Justice and Diversity

Each year, Dominican University invites students to submit essays on themes related to social justice and diversity. This essay contest honors the work of Sister Mary Ellen, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and others in the ongoing dialogue about and struggle for social justice and diversity in America and abroad.

  • All Dominican full-time undergraduate students are eligible.
  • Each essay should be between 3,000 and 3,500 words.
  • Applicants can revise an essay previously submitted for a class.
  • There will be 3 topics to choose from. Applicants must address one of those topics.
  • A $500 reward will be awarded to the winner.
  • The winner will be invited to present the paper during URSCI.
