Civic Learning Across the Disciplines: Teaching and Assessing Civic Learning Skills, Knowledge and Dispositions

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
We warmly invite faculty from across the disciplines and ACCA institutions to share their research on teaching and/or their innovative teaching practices. Come to hear, present, and exchange ideas for strengthening student learning throughout the undergraduate curriculum.
In keeping with this year’s theme, we especially welcome
presentations focused on promoting and assessing civic learning across the disciplines.
For example:
- Effective civic learning pedagogies: e.g., community-based learning, classroom debates, effective service learning, etc.
- Building social capital and building student engagement in current events
- Teaching ethics as a dimension of civic engagement
- Civic learning beyond the “ usual suspect” disciplines
- Civility in the classroom and on the web
- Civic learning and rhetoric
We also welcome presentations on other topics about undergraduate teaching and learning, including:
- Interdisciplinary/integrative pedagogy
- Teaching about sustainability
- Adapting pedagogy to meet student demographic changes
- Civic engagement
- Team-based learning
- Assessing teaching effectiveness
- How learning works
Presentation formats:
- Individual presentation (sharing research on/ideas for teaching) --15 minutes
- Collaborative presentation (a single presentation with multiple contributors) -- 60 minutes
- Panel (made up of two or more individual presentation on a common topic) -- 60 minutes
- Roundtable (an informal and interactive discussion on a specific teaching issue) -- 30-45 minutes
