Brennan School of Business presents annual ethics lecture
Dominican University’s Brennan School of Business will present its annual Ethics and Leadership Lecture, featuring the Consul General of South Africa in Chicago, on Wednesday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m. Ambassador Nomvume Pearl Magaqa will discuss Black economic empowerment and its impact on wealth creation and social values in South Africa in the Lund Auditorium, 7900 W. Division Street. The ethics of Black economic empowerment is a hotly debated topic in South Africa today. At a micro level, Black economic empowerment is affecting the daily lives of millions of South Africans and, at a macro level, it has reshaped the South African economic landscape forever.
Ambassador Pearl Magaqa served as South Africa’s ambassador to Thailand for three years before her appointment as consul general to Chicago and the Midwest in June 2008. She spent more than a decade in political exile during which time she served in various capacities with the African National Congress, an African liberation movement which was banned from the country in 1960. Her work with the ANC included research on educational issues in preparation for the first historic meetings in the early 1990s between the ANC and the former government of South Africa.
Magaqa has vast experience with the private sector in South Africa. She holds a master’s degree in education from Sofia University.
A reception will follow the lecture. This lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Linda Puvogel, assistant dean of the Brennan School of Business, at (708) 524-6507 or lpuvogel@dom.edu.
