Dominican University’s Siena Center presents lecture on science and religion

Dominican University’s Albertus Magnus Society will present a lecture titled “Deep Incarnation: Prepare for Astonishment”by Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ, distinguished professor of theology at Fordham University, on Thursday, November 19. The lecture will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Priory Campus Auditorium, 7200 W. Division Street, River Forest.

Johnson will present a lecture on the intersection of science and religion, focusing on the ways in which scientific insight can shape theological understanding. She will also discuss how knowledge of cosmic and biological evolution shed light on the wisdom that holds Jesus Christ is the incarnate Word of God. Admission to the lecture is $10.

Johnson is a sister in the Congregation of St. Joseph as well as a teacher, author, editor, and public lecturer in theology. She is the former president of both the Catholic Theological Society of America and the ecumenical American Theological Society. She has written and published numerous essays in scholarly journals, chapters in edited books, encyclopedia entries, book reviews, and articles in popular religious journals. Her work has been translated into Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Lithuanian, Polish, Korean, and Indonesian. Her most recent book is Quest for the Living God.

Established in 2006 by the Siena Center of Dominican University, the Albertus Magnus Society pursues new information and insight in a setting that is both scholarly and congenial, and reflects the Dominican understanding of the compatibility of religion and science. The society was named for Albertus Magnus, patron saint of scientists, and thirteenth century Dominican famed for scientific discoveries and a theology reflective of the emerging science of his day.
