Faculty Expert Spotlight


Father Richard Woods, OP, is the holder of the Lund-Gill Chair for the 2009-10 academic year in the Rosary College Arts and Sciences. The chair is named for former Dominican University President Sr. Candida Lund, OP, and former English professor, Sr. Cyrille Gill, OP. In this role, Woods will address themes and issues at the heart of the liberal arts and sciences through several public lectures.

Background:
Father Richard Woods’s academic interests range from spirituality and theology to health and nutrition to dragons and the Knights Templar. He is Dominican University’s Lund-Gill Chair for the 2009-10 academic year. Woods most recent books include Eckhart’s Way (2009), Wellness: Life, Health, and Spirituality (2008), and Christian Spirituality: God’s Presence through the Ages (2006). He has done recordings of his lectures on topics such as “Angels, Demons, and the Devil: Christian Belief and Experience” and “St. Dominic and the Dominican Way: The Order of Preachers.” His recent articles include “Hope Rises in El Salvador” (Doctrine and Life), “Spirituality, Health, and Global Healing” (Spirituality), “Seven Bowls of Wrath: The Ecological Relevance of Revelation” (Biblical Theology Bulletin), and “God and Human Experience Today: A Status Report” (Doctrine and Life). He presented a paper on “Varieties of Mystical Experience Today: A Common Context” at the 2007 Mysticism and Monotheism Conference in Boston. Woods also presented a paper on “The Spirituality of the Early Irish Saints” at the Christian Heritage Conference Irish Saints and Celtic Spirituality in Northern Ireland in 2007. Woods has also published fiction, including a series about the Knights Templar, Epiphanius Tighe and the Dragon of East South Water Street (2000), and A Diversity of Dragons (1997), which was written with Anne McCaffrey.
