Douglas Keberlein-Gutierrez, assistant professor of history, gave a lecture in September on “The Woodward Thesis and the Military in Guatemalan History” at an international conference in honor of Ralph Lee Woodward at the Stone Center for Latin American Studies, Tulane University, New Orleans. He also presented a lecture on “Integrating Latin American Studies and American Studies at a Small Liberal Arts College” at the Midwest Association of Latin American Studies conference in Charleston, IL in November.

presented "Nation-Building and the Rise of the Modern Military in 19th-Century Guatemala" at the 2002 Midwestern Association of Latin American Studies (MALAS) Conference in Nashville, TN in October. His article "Guatemala Country Profile," has been accepted by Prentice Hall publishing for its forthcoming E-Marketing, third edition.
