Karen Brown and Kate Marek, Graduate School of Library and Information Science Associate Professors, have been named Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) Outstanding Researchers for 2005 by the LAMA Research Interest Group. Professors Brown and Marek are being honored for their article in Library Administration and Management, entitled "Librarianship and Change: A Consideration of Weick’s ‘Drop Your Tools’ Metaphor." The article was chosen by a panel of reviewers for its furtherance of research and publication on topics related to administration and management issues within libraries.
Professors Brown and Marek will be recognized for their achievement at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in New Orleans in June 2006

At the University’s Reunion 2004! alumni weekend in June, Assistant Professor Kate Marek and Associate Professor Karen Brown presented a talk, “Dropping One’s Tools in the Face of Rapid Change,” which was based on their research about successful leadership in the library and information science profession. Marek and Brown also presented a session at the Second International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities, in Prato, Italy, July 20-23 on “ Redefining Scholarly Communication in a Digital Age.”6 Октябрь 2004 г.
Associate Professor Karen Brown and Assistant Professor Kate Marek presented "Dropping Your Tools: A Study of Change in the LIS Profession" as a part of Dominican’s faculty seminar series. The presentation was based on their summer research, which included focus group discussions centered on the issue of leadership in a time of rapid professional change. Karen Brown participated as a planning committee member for the spring 2004 Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries Conference, Redefining Ourselves: Academic Librarianship at the Crossroads, which was held March 31-April 2 in Oak Brook, IL. She also served as moderator for one of the conference sessions, "Creating Streaming Media for Your Library: Theory & Practice." In addition, Brown was invited to be a member of the ALA Intellectual Freedom Committee’s new Subcommittee on FCC Rules and Media Ownership.1 Январь 2003 г.
Moderated a panel presentation, Models of Cooperation Between State Libraries and Library Cooperatives, at the American Library Association 2002 Annual Conference in June in Atlanta, GA.“As a student I wanted an intimate community.
