Mary Pat Fallon Receives Teaching Excellence Award at Dominican University
Mary Pat Fallon, a member of the faculty of Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS), was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award by students of the graduate library school. Fallon has been on the staff of the university since 1997.
Fallon, an Oak Park resident from 1989 to 2004 and a current resident of Elmwood Park, served as assistant director of the university library from 2002 until 2006 when she joined the faculty of the GSLIS. She currently teaches classes in reference and online resources, user instruction, and academic libraries. Her research focuses on designing information literacy classes for doctoral students and teaching future librarians how to teach.
Fallon graduated from Dominican University with a master’s degree in library science and has a master’s degree in English from DePaul University. She serves as the faculty representative for graduate students in the university’s library program and hosts the university’s monthly book club. She has also served as the faculty representative to the university’s board of trustees.
Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution
offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Dominican offers 50 undergraduate academic programs in
the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences and 15 graduate programs through the Graduate School of
Library and Information Science, the Brennan School of Business, the School of Education, the
Graduate School of Social Work, and the School of Leadership and Continuing Studies. In the 2008
issue of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report again ranked Dominican University in
the top tier of Midwest master’s level universities and as a “best value” for the tenth consecutive
year.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
