DU Center for Economic Education Hosts Teacher Workshop

Dominican University’s Center for Economic Education will host, in collaboration with the National Council on Economic Education and State Farm, a training workshop for teachers on Virtual Economics 3.0 software on Saturday, March 29 from 9:00 a.m. to noon in Room 008 of the Fine Arts Building, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.

The Virtual Economics 3.0 software is a powerful instructional resource that can help teachers and their students understand basic economics concepts. The materials can be customized to a variety of economics curricula according to state standards.

Teachers who participate in the workshop will receive a complimentary copy of the software. Each CD-ROM contains 51 concepts with an overview; over 1,200 featured lessons for elementary, middle and high school students; teaching tips; a multimedia demonstration of concepts; a glossary of more than 500 terms; and a searchable database of publications and of national and state standards by grade level.

The Illinois Council on Economic Education, an affiliate of the National Council on Economic Education, provides economic education programs for K-12 schools through university-based Centers for Economic Education. The Dominican center serves schools in DuPage and Lake counties, and in western and northern Cook County outside of the City of Chicago.

The workshop is free. Interested teachers should e-mail their name, school, and the grade and subject they teach to Dan Condon, Dominican University professor of economics, at condondp@dom.edu. For more information, please contact Dr. Condon at (708) 524-6233.

Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. In the 2008 issue of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report again ranked Dominican University in the top tier of Midwest master’s level universities and as a “best value” for the tenth consecutive year.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
