DU Book Club to Discuss The Fall of a Sparrow
Dominican University’s Book Club will discuss
The Fall of a Sparrow, by Robert Hellenga, on Wednesday, March 19 at 7:00 p.m. The
discussion will be held in Lewis Lounge, located on the first floor of Lewis Hall, 7900 W. Division
Street, River Forest.
The Fall of a Sparrow centers on Woody Woodhull, a classics professor at a small Illinois
college. Seven years after the death of his eldest daughter in a terrorist bombing in Italy, his
wife has left him, his remaining two daughters have grown up, and his grief endures. His career
ruined by an affair with a student, Woodhull decides to attend the trial of the terrorists in
Bologna, marking the beginning of a new life.
Hellenga teaches at Knox College in Galesburg, where he is the George Appleton Laurence
Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in English. He is the author of five novels, including the
critically acclaimed
The Sixteen Pleasures.
