Dominican University Presents Latino Film Festival
Dominican University will serve as a satellite site for the 24
th Annual Chicago Latino Film Festival by screening
El Sueno del Paraiso on Monday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Eloise Martin Recital Hall,
7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.
El Sueno del Paraiso (The Dream of Paradise) is directed by Colombian filmmaker Carlos
Palau. It centers on Japanese immigrants in Colombia before and during World War II. Isabel
Sarmiento, the daughter of a landholder in Colombia’s Yauca Valley, engineers the immigration of
Japanese families to her family’s hacienda. This glimpse of paradise for the hardworking immigrants
is interrupted by the war, as Germans, Japanese and Italians are detained and taken to residential
camps. As a result, Isabel and the love of her life, Yuzo, are forced to endure hardship and
sorrow.
The film, presented in Spanish with English subtitles, will be preceded by a champagne
reception at 7:00 p.m. and followed by a discussion. General admission tickets are $10. For more
information, please call (708) 524-6678.
