Dominican Book Club to Discuss "Friend of My Youth" and "Tell Me a Riddle"
Dominican University’s Book Club will discuss Alice Munro’s
Friend of My Youth and Tillie Olsen’s
Tell Me a Riddle on Wednesday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m. in Lewis Lounge, located on the
first floor of Lewis Hall, 7900 West Division Street, River Forest.
Friend of My Youth is a masterful collection of 10 short stories. The subjects range from
a woman haunted by dreams of her dead mother to an adulterous couple to a widow discovering
unpleasant truths about her husband’s past. The stories are simply written but powerfully catch the
essence of the characters’ personalities and the situations at hand.
Tell Me a Riddle is a collection of four short stories exploring the suffering and tragedy
of the human experience. The central themes of the stories include the confrontation with aging,
illness and death as well as the struggles of motherhood and marriage.
