DU's Kammeier receives NAC postseason honors
Dominican University standout freshman Darcy Kammeier (Kirkwood, MO) was voted to the Northern
Athletics Conference (NAC) Women’s Volleyball All-Conference First Team as well as the All-Rookie
Team as a true freshman.
Kammeier, a 5’8” outside hitter, logged a team-high 406 kills on 1,295 attack attempts as she
led the Stars to a 9-20 overall record. In conference play, Kammeier’s play got even better as the
freshman posted 200 kills in 12 conference matches, averaging a conference-best 4.55 kills per
game. In addition, the Missouri native ranked third in the NAC with 39 service aces, including a
match-high 11 aces in a 3-1 win for the Stars over Marian College on September 28.
On the year, Kammeier reached double-digit totals in 25 of the Stars’ 29 matches, including a
stretch of 18 consecutive matches between September 8 and October 20. Included in that stretch
were Kammeier’s top three performances of the season, a 28-kill performance against Benedictine
University, the NAC runner-up, a 28-kill performance in the thrilling five-game win for the Stars
at Edgewood College, and a 24-kill performance at Aurora University.
In addition to her outstanding offensive play, Kammeier posted double-digit totals in digs in
22 matches, logging a season-high 23 digs in the Stars’ 3-1 win over Aurora University. On the
year, Kammeier ranked second on the team in digs, posting 374 digs on the season and averaging 3.56
digs per game as the Stars played 105 games in the team’s 29 matches.
Kammeier was the lone outside hitter in the NAC to log a triple-double this fall, as she
posted 20 kills, 18 digs and 11 service aces as the Stars picked up their first conference victory
since the 2005 season when they competed in the Lake Michigan Conference. In the four-game match,
Kammeier set the Dominican University single match record with her 11 aces, while the Stars set the
team record for aces in a match with 26 aces as a team.
Kammeier and the Stars just missed the 2007 NAC Women’s Volleyball Tournament, falling to
Rockford on the final day of the conference regular season. The team ultimately finished in a
three-way tie with Aurora University and Wisconsin Lutheran College for ninth place in the 13-team
conference at 4-8 in NAC play on the season.
Kammeier became the first freshman to post 400-plus kills in a Stars’ uniform, with her 406
kills on the season ranking ninth on the Stars’ all-time single season records list. The freshman
led the program to a 9-20 overall record on the season, improving the team’s winning percentage by
over 300-percentage points from the 2006 season.
