Dominican Presents Mazzuchelli Lecture on Leadership
Dominican University’s Siena Center will present Dr. Susan Secker, professor of ethics and
former provost of Seattle University, in the annual Mazzuchelli Lecture on Thursday, November 8.
Secker will speak on “Hungry for Leadership: The Challenge of Our Time” at 5:00 p.m. in the Eloise
Martin Recital Hall, Fine Arts Building, 7900 W. Division St., River Forest.
In her lecture, Secker will examine the leadership vacuum in contemporary society and explore
ways that leaders can bring creative vision to the governmental, community, corporate and religious
organizations they serve. She will also share what the Catholic tradition offers to inspire a new
generation of responsible leaders.
Currently a consultant in leadership development, Secker’s experience includes strategic
planning, leadership coaching, diversifying the workforce and cultivating ethical leadership. She
has been involved with Seattle University since 1989, where she has taught courses in graduate and
undergraduate ethics, chaired the department of theology and religious studies, and served as vice
president for planning. She is the co-founder of Chicago’s Anawin Center for Native Americans and
serves on the board of directors for Northwest Harvest and the Women’s Funding Alliance, and is a
member of the board of trustees for Dominican University.
Secker earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Dominican University, a master’s
degree in divinity from Loyola University Chicago and a doctoral degree in ethics and society from
the University of Chicago.
Admission to the lecture is free. For more information on Dominican University’s Siena Center,

Dominican University established the Siena Center to engage the critical issues of church and
society in light of faith and scholarship. The center was named for St. Catherine of Siena, a
14th-century laywoman who worked for the reform of the church and justice in the world. Her
passionate devotion to the central issues of church and society inspires the work of the center in
its schedule of lectures, symposia, workshops, retreats, research and seminars.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
