Streak Ends at Five for Women's Soccer
Dominican University women’s soccer team snapped a five-game winning streak with a 4-1 loss at
Edgewood College in Madison, WI. on Saturday. Mayra Camacho (Summit, IL) netted the lone goal
for the Stars on a penalty kick in the 27
th minute.
Edgewood struck twice in the first 10 minutes of the game to pull out to a 2-0 lead before
Camacho scored her team-leading 11
th goal of the season for the Stars. The score remained 2-1 into the second half until
the Eagles scored a pair of unanswered goals in the opening minutes of the second half.
The Stars were outshot 19-3 in the game and Edgewood held a 10-4 advantage in corner
kicks.
Earlier in the week, Dominican knocked off Wisconsin Lutheran College 3-0 at home.
Camacho gave the
Stars a 1-0 goal in the 30th minute on a penalty kick after the Warriors were called for a
hand-ball in the box.
The score remained 1-0 into the second half until freshman
Rosa
Andreuccetti (Elmhurst, IL) notched her second tally of the season, beating the Wisconsin
Lutheran goalkeeper with assists on the play from Camacho and
Michelle Reynoso
(Burbank, IL). Camacho then capped off the scoring with her tenth goal of the season in the 90th
minute.
The Stars dominated possession in the game, outshooting their NAC counterpart by a 32-3
margin, including 19 shots in the second half. Dominican also held a 4-0 advantage in corner
kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Jacqui Lani (Green
Bay, WI) picked up the shutout in goal for the Stars, logging two saves in the contest. The shutout
was her third shutout of the season and improved the team's overall record to 5-3-0 on the season
and a perfect 5-0-0 in the NAC.
Dominican now stands at 5-4-0 on the season and 5-1-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference
(NAC). Dominican will travel to Rockford College on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. game and then host
Concordia University (WI) on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. game on Dominican’s West Campus Field.
