DU Presents Recent Work by Jeffery Cote de Luna
Dominican University will present a solo exhibition of paintings by Jeffery Cote de Luna from
Wednesday, November 7 to Friday, December 21 in the O’Connor Art Gallery on the fourth floor of
Lewis Hall, 7900 West Division Street, River Forest.
The show, titled
Jeffery Cote de Luna: Recent Work, will feature the artist’s dramatic shift from
figurative painting to monochromatic abstraction. The paintings are computer-manipulated reworkings
of master paintings by artists from the Renaissance through the modern period. Through precise
calculations and manipulations, Cote de Luna reduces the tones of each painting into a single pixel
of color which he then physically reproduces with oil and wax on linen-wrapped panels.
Cote de Luna is professor of painting and drawing at Dominican University as well as chair of
art, art history and design. He received his bachelor of fine arts from the School of the Art
Institute of Chicago and his master of fine arts from Yale University School of Art.
The exhibit will open with a reception on Wednesday, November 7 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and
will feature live music by A Yellow Purple Blue. Refreshments will be served. This event is free
and open to the public.
