DU presents Smoking Popes in Homecoming Concert
Dominican University presents Chicago indie favorites Smoking Popes for a special Homecoming
concert on Friday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m. The McHenry County punk rock band, which has recently
returned to active status after an eight-year hiatus, will perform in the university’s Lund
Auditorium, 7900 W. Division St., River Forest.
The Smoking Popes’ unique style of punk pop and crooning vocals (Buddy Holly meets the Ramones
guitar rock and Sinatra vocals) made them a critical cult success throughout the 1990s. The band,
which includes brothers Josh, Matt and Eli Caterer, disbanded in 1998 and reunited for a sold-out
at Chicago’s Metro in November 2005. They embarked on a U.S. tour with new drummer Ryan Chavez in
early 2006 and played at Chicago’s Lollapalooza in the summer of 2006. Songs from their new album,
scheduled for release early next year, will be performed during this highly anticipated
concert.
General admission tickets for this concert are $22. For more information, contact the
Dominican University box office at (708) 488-5000.
