School of Business Names 2007 McGowan Scholar
River Forest, IL - Dominican University’s Brennan School of Business has announced that the William G. McGowan Scholarship for the 2007-2008 academic year has been awarded to Kari Madden of Oswego, IL.
Madden was selected because of her high academic standards, strong letters of recommendation by faculty, and her participation in community activities. Juggling a family, part-time work and active involvement in her community, Madden has maintained a 3.9 grade point average in graduate school.
The scholarship will allow Madden to register for a full course load during the 2007-2008 academic year, thereby enabling her to complete her graduate studies a year earlier than she had expected. Madden graduated from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in communications and started her MBA studies at the Brennan School of Business in the fall of 2006.
The McGowan Scholars Program, administered by the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund, was named in honor of the contributions made by the founder and chairman of MCI Communications Corporation to the fields of business, telecommunications and entrepreneurship.
Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Dominican offers 50 undergraduate academic programs through the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences and 15 graduate programs through the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the Brennan School of Business, the School of Education and the Graduate School of Social Work. In the 2007 issue of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report again ranked Dominican University in the top tier of Midwest master’s level universities and as a “best value” for the ninth consecutive year.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
