Tina Valentino Receives Exemplary Service Award
River Forest, IL – Tina Valentino, a 1982 graduate of Rosary College (now known as Dominican University), was honored with the university’s Exemplary Service Award during a ceremony last month. Valentino graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English, and went on to become a prize-winning editor of Neighbors, a monthly magazine serving the western suburbs.
Valentino received the award because of her dedication to the Dominican sisters. She often visits the sisters’ motherhouse in Sinsinawa, WI and prepared special dinners for the sisters of the Rosary Convent at Dominican University. Valentino has been an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Melrose Park for many years.
Valentino’s Neighbors has gained widespread recognition, receiving the Peter Lisagor Award for Exemplary Journalism. She has been honored by the Illinois Women’s Press Association, the National Federation of Press Women, the Cook County Board of Commissioners and the Communicator Awards.
Other recipients of the Exemplary Service Award include Raymond J. Reid, a university trustee; Mary Quinn, a member of the Service Learning Advisory Board; and Regina Rizzuto, a member of the School of Education’s Clinical Practice and Field Experience Advisory Committee.
Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Dominican offers 50 undergraduate academic programs in the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences and 17 graduate programs through the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the Brennan School of Business, the School of Education, the Graduate School of Social Work, and the Institute for Adult Learning. In the 2007 issue of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report again ranked Dominican University in the top tier of Midwest master’s level universities and as a “best value” for the eighth consecutive year.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
