DU Presents Fareed Haque in Kaleidoscopic Cultures
River Forest , IL - Dominican University’s Performing Arts Center will present guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque, Indian violin phenomenon Kala Ramnath and several guest artists in a concert of multicultural musical styles on Saturday, April 28. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Lund Auditorium, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.
Fareed Haque enjoys a career that spans the spectrum of musical styles from jazz to classical guitar and Indian fusion. His versatility has attracted prominent musicians such as Sting, Edgar Meyer, Kurt Elling, Joe Zawinal and Ramsey Lewis as well as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Sinfonietta. Born to a Pakistani father and Chilean mother, Haque is a world traveler whose natural eclecticism has become the hallmark of his music. He has twice been selected for “Talent Deserving Wider Recognition” by Downbeat magazine.
Kala Ramnath stands today as one of the most outstanding instrumental musicians in the North Indian classical genre. Known for her imaginative improvisation, Ramnath has developed a reputation for making her violin sound so close to vocal music that it is referred to as the “singing violin.”& amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; lt; /p>
