DU Presents Upstaged: Christopher Durang

Dominican University’s Performing Arts Center will present Upstaged: Christopher Durang the weekend of Friday, April 13 through Sunday, April 15 in the Eloise Martin Recital Hall, 7900 West Division Street, River Forest.

Upstaged is a showcase of classic one-act theatre parodies by Christopher Durang, one of the most recognized satirists in contemporary theatre. He is a multiple Obie Award-winner and Tony Award-nominee and was nominated for the 2006 Pulitzer Prize in drama. His work has featured such esteemed actors as John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Joan Allen and Sigourney Weaver. The Harvard University and Yale School of Drama graduate’s trademark blend of comedy and anger has been praised by The New York Times, and his work has become a favorite of college students and fans of alternative and political theatre.

The parodies gathered for this program are among Durang’s most famous and outrageous pieces, including Mrs. Sorken, Medea (co-written by Wendy Wasserstein), For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls, Desire, Desire, Desire, and The Actor’s Nightmare. Rich in theatre history, the production lovingly mocks everything from Shakespeare’s Hamlet to Williams’ The Glass Menagerie to Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross.
