DU Co-Sponsors Program on Charitable Children
Dominican University’s Brennan School of Business is co-sponsoring with the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation and The Volunteer Center in Oak Park a lecture on “Planning for the Future: The Giving Family” on Wednesday, April 11. The lecture by Carol Weisman, author of Raising Charitable Children, will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the university’s Priory Campus auditorium, 7200 W. Division Street.
Weisman’s lecture will address how families can set priorities and share values while planning for their financial future. The program will give parents and children an opportunity to share values and talk about how they would like to mold their lives and the lives of others.
Weisman will share some of the tips that she included in her book, published in May, 2006, for teaching children how to give back. Packed with ideas and activities that are easy and enjoyable, Weisman’s book includes her own family tradition of celebrating birthdays by making small donations to programs or charities of the celebrant’s choice. She also shares the story of a grandmother who asked her grandchildren to do something nice for someone else on her birthday, draw of picture of what they did and then tell her the story. The book includes ideas for children of all ages and backgrounds.
