Susann Revolorio Receives Lincoln Laureate

Susann Revolorio, a senior at Dominican University and a graduate of Mather High School in Chicago, has been named as one of 50 Lincoln Laureate Award-winners in the State of Illinois. The Student Laureate Medallion is given each year for excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities to students who have overcome extraordinary obstacles to achieve their educational goals.

A triple major in computer information systems, international business and French, Revolorio was born and raised in Guatemala before coming to the United States in 1993 after the death of her mother. While attending Mather High School on Chicago north side, she maintained a 3.6 grade-point-average and was involved in several sports and community service activities. However, her low ACT score limited her college choices.

Dominican University accepted Revolorio as a student with the condition that she enroll in its Transitions Program, a college preparatory program providing accelerated classes in English and an orientation to campus activities and opportunities as well as ongoing support through tutoring and study group sessions. Since her freshman year, Revolorio has been involved in the program by helping other students adjust to college life.

Revolorio has received numerous scholarships to help fund her college education, including the Hispanic College Fund Scholarship, the Jesus Guadalupe Scholarship Award and the Henry S. Lang Scholarship. She has been named to the Honor’s List every semester since her sophomore year and joined the Sigma Iota Epsilon Honors Society in 2005.

After spending a semester in France through the university’s study abroad program, Revolorio decided to add French as a major. After graduating in May, she plans to return to Guatemala where she will do community work for a year before beginning a career in international business.

Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. In the 2007 issue of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report again ranked Dominican University in the top tier of Midwest master’s level universities and as a “best value” for the ninth consecutive year.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
