Mallegowda Receives McGowan Scholarship
River Forest resident Kumar Mallegowda has been selected as the William G. McGowan Scholar at Dominican University’s Brennan School of Business. Mallegowda is pursuing his master’s degree in business administration at the university.
Mallegowda was selected for this prestigious scholarship from a number of highly qualified candidates. Faculty recommendations written on his behalf noted his academic achievements—he has a 3.9 grade point average, as well as his work ethic—he is working part-time while maintaining a full course load.
Mallegowda came to the United States from India in September 2005 to receive special training on a new technical platform for the medical transcription company for which he worked. After completing the training, he returned to India to train the company’s staff of 40 employees. He returned to the United States to receive an MBA with a specialty in the health care field.
Mallegowda is currently developing eGlints.com, a Web portal that will enable students across the country to interact with each other and easily share information and opinions on a wide variety of educational issues. This entrepreneurial spirit was especially attractive to the McGowan Charitable Fund, Inc, which was named in honor of William G. McGowan, the founder and chairman of MCI Communications Corporation and a distinguished entrepreneur, philanthropist and humanitarian. He is recognized for transforming a small radio communications company into the United States’ largest long distance telephone carrier and a worldwide communications giant.
Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Dominican offers 50 undergraduate academic programs through the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences and 17 graduate programs through the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the Brennan School of Business, the School of Education, the Graduate School of Social Work, and the Institute for Adult Learning. In the 2007 issue of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report again ranked Dominican University in the top tier of Midwest master’s level universities and as a “best value” for the ninth consecutive year.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
