GSLIS Presents Conference

Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS), in partnership with the Metropolitan Library System, is presenting a one-day conference on Friday, March 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on “Shape Shifters and Change Masters: Librarians’ Professional Identity and Image in the 21st Century.” The conference will be held at the university’s Priory Campus, 7200 W. Division Street, River Forest.

The conference is designed for Illinois academic, public, school and special librarians as well as library and information science students. Included in the day-long event will be workshops covering professional development and attaining personal and career goals, continuing education trends, networking and mentoring. In addition, Ann Seidl, writer and director of The Hollywood Librarian, will preview clips from the first feature-length documentary examining on-screen images of librarians and library workers.

Speakers will include Tracie Hall, assistant dean of Dominican University’s GSLIS and former director of the American Library Association’s Office for Diversity; noted library consultants Peggy Barber, former associate executive director for communication for the ALA, and Linda Wallace, former director of the ALA’s public information office; and Christine Stoll, library services consultant for the Metropolitan Library System.

This free conference, which will be eligible for seven CPDU credit hours for school library media specialists, is limited to 150 attendees and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. An optional lunch buffet will be available for $10. To register for the conference, contact Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science at (708) 524-6845 or at gslis@dom.edu.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
