Dominican University (5-5, 2-2) climbed back to the .500 mark tonight with a 74-65 non-conference victory over the Eureka College Red Devils (5-3, 2-0).

The Stars fell behind 2-0 before the opening tip after a technical foul was assessed to the Stars during pre-game warm-ups. The Stars claimed the lead for good on their second possession of the game on a lay-up by junior Jose Garcia and never looked back, leading by as many as 12 in the first half.

Garcia lead all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, including going 4-for-8 from three-point range and a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Garcia led four Dominican players scoring in double figures as juniors Mike Haiduc and Andre Smith chipped in 15 and 13 points respectively while sophomore Dan Borys added 12 points in the winning effort.

Senior Chris Tarpley paced Eureka with 18 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Tarpley wnet 7-for-11 from the field and 4-for-6 from three-point range in 23 minutes of work. Freshman Michael Zasada added 11 points off the Red Devils bench on 3-for-5 shooting from the field.

Dominican returns to Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action next Wednesday, January 10 as they travel to Aurora University for a 7:00 p.m. tip.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
