Men’s basketball handles neighborhood rival
Dominican University’s Dan Borys (Crown Point, IN) scored eight of the Stars’ first 10 points as the Stars knocked Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) foe and neighborhood rival Concordia University Chicago 80-65 on Saturday. The Stars began the game on a 15-2 run in the first five minutes and cruised to the win behind a career-high 21 points from Borys.
The 6’4” sophomore went 8-for-13 from the field and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 28 minutes.
Senior Binyamin Jones (Chicago, IL) added 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field, including 4-for-5 from three while junior transfer Rashim Lettsome (Waukegan, IL) chipped in 13 points with eight assists, four rebounds and three steals in the winning effort.
The win pushed the Stars’ record back to .500 at 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the NAC after the Stars fell to Aurora University 90-66 earlier in the week. The 25th ranked Spartans proved to be too much for Dominican despite a game-high 27 points from junior transfer Jose Garcia (Kenosha, WI). Garcia, the NAC player-of-the-week, shot 11-for-20 from field and 3-for-6 from three in 37 minutes of work.
The Stars return to action in the NAC on Tuesday evening when they travel to Rockford College for a 7:00 p.m. tip. The Stars will then head to Benedictine University on Thursday before returning home to host Concordia University (WI) on Saturday for a 4:15 p.m. game.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
