Dominican Presents Work of Jonathan Gitelson

Dominican University will open an exhibit of digital images by Jonathan Gitelson on Wednesday, February 7 with a reception from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the O’Connor Art Gallery, 7900 West Division Street, River Forest. The exhibit will continue through Friday, March 9.

The exhibit, titled “Social Studies,” features digital images capturing the overlooked minutia of everyday life such as discarded letters and shoes hanging on telephone wires. Gitelson’s work has been displayed throughout the United States and Canada and is in the permanent collection of several institutions including The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Whitney Museum of American Art and the Albert and Victoria Museum in London.

Gitelson received a bachelor’s degree from Marlboro College and completed his master of fine arts degree at Columbia College. He is an adjunct faculty member in the photography department at Columbia College and Loyola University Chicago. He has received several awards and grants including the International Digital Art Award, Breakout Artist 2006 from Chicago’s New City magazine and a Puffin Foundation Grant.

The O’Connor Art Gallery is located on the fourth floor of Lewis Hall on the Main Campus and is free and open to the public. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Call (708) 524-6491 for more information.
