Second half rally lifts Dominican to NAC victory

The Dominican University men’s basketball team outscored the Lakeland College Muskies 44-30 over the game’s final 20 minutes to pull out a thrilling 73-72 victory in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action last Saturday.

The Stars, trailing 42-29 after the first half, rallied behind the effort of junior point guard Rashim Lettsome (Waukegan, IL) as he scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the second half, including a pair of free throws with 0.3 seconds remaining in the game and the Stars trailing 72-71.

Juniors Mike Haiduc (Chicago, IL) and Jose Garcia (Kenosha, WI) added 12 points and 11 points, respectively, while senior Erin McMillan (Chicago, IL) chipped in eight points, six rebounds and two blocks in the winning effort.

The win marked the Stars’ first three-game winning streak of the season, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran College 66-62 earlier in the week and knocking off Concordia University (WI) 81-73 on Saturday, January 20.

The Stars now stand at 10-7 on the season and 7-4 in the NAC in a tie for third place with Benedictine University. On Tuesday, the Stars will travel to Watertown, WI. to take on Maranatha Baptist Bible College, which they defeated earlier this season 101-37. They will return home on Thursday, February 1 to host Marian College with plans to avenge a 63-61 loss earlier this year. The Stars will then travel to Edgewood College on Saturday, February 3 to take on the Edgewood College Eagles.
