Men’s soccer wins NAC championship
The Dominican University men’s soccer team outlasted the Concordia University (WI) Falcons to win the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament championship 1-0.The Stars (18-1-1, 9-0-0 NAC) scored the lone goal of the game in the 83rd minute as freshman Arnes Rodriguez (Rosemont, IL) caught the Concordia (13-5-4, 6-3-0) goalkeeper off his line and struck a ball just inside the far post from 25 yards out. The goal snapped the Falcons’ nine-game shutout streak.
Stars’ goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa (Chicago, IL) recorded his third consecutive shutout and has not allowed a goal in his last 543 minutes played. Dominican held a 15-13 advantage in shots and a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Stars will now sit and wait to see if they receive an at-large bid from the NCAA selection committee to the Division III National Tournament. The brackets are to be posted on NCAASports.com at 8:00 a.m. Monday morning.
