Men’s soccer holds off Green Knights
The Dominican University Stars scored a pair of goals in the 29th minute just 28 seconds apart, defeating the St. Norbert College Green Knights 2-0 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship.
Plamen Pamukov scored what proved to be the game-winning goal (with assists from Matt Jakobsze and Arnes Rodriguez) just seconds before Rodriguez tallied his 15th goal of the season to completely deflate the Green Knights. The Knights had advanced to the second round on a shootout victory over University Chicago Saturday afternoon.
Despite being out-shot 10-5 for just the second time all season, the Stars will advance to the third round of the national tournament. Sunday’s victory represented Head Coach Erick Baumann’s 200th career win with the Stars.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
