Six women’s soccer players honored by NAC

The Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) released its postseason awards on Tuesday with six Dominican University women’s soccer players landing on the NAC All-Conference, All-Conference Honorable Mention or NAC All-Rookie Teams.

Sophomore forward Mayra Camacho (Summit, IL), the 2005 Lake Michigan Conference Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, and senior defender Elizabeth Fulton (LaGrange, IL) represented Dominican University on the 2006 NAC All-Conference Team.

Camacho, the nation’s leading goal scorer in 2005 as freshmen, led the conference in goals scored with 20 goals and ranked second in points with 44 points in 11 conference games. With 25 goals and 56 points in 19 total games, Camacho ranked seventh in the nation in goals per game (1.32) and 13th in the nation in points per game (2.95).

Fulton anchored the Stars’ defense that allowed just eight goals in conference play and just 15 goals on the season, posting a 0.77 team goals against average. The LaGrange native also tallied a career-high two goals on the season with one assist.

Freshmen Kelly Adler (Naperville, IL), Rosio Curiel (Wheeling, IL), Jacqui Lani (Green Bay, WI) and Stephanie Starkey (Lake in the Hills, IL) all received All-Conference Honorable Mention honors and were named to the NAC All-Rookie Team.

On the year, the Stars posted a 12-5-2 overall record, the second-best record in the history of the program dating back to 1997. Lani, the Stars’ freshmen goalkeeper, broke multiple individual season records including wins (12), shutouts (10) and goals against average (0.71)
