The Dominican University men’s basketball team opened the 2006-2007 season last weekend by splitting a pair of games with Blackburn and Greenville colleges of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).On Friday night, the Stars fell 57-52 to host Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL, despite holding the Beavers to just 21 second-half points. The Stars, trailing 36-26 at the break, stepped up the intensity on the defensive end, holding Blackburn to 34.8 percent shooting from the field and forcing seven turnovers.

However, the Stars’ offense struggled, shooting just 1-for-11 from behind the three-point stripe, including going 0-for-5 in the second half.
The Stars bounced back on Saturday with an 80-74 victory over Greenville behind 20 points and 16 rebounds from senior Binyamin Jones (Chicago, IL). Jones shot 7-for-13 from the field and 6-for-8 from the foul line and grabbed 12 defensive rebounds in 39 minutes. Sophomore Dan Borys (Crown Point, IN) and freshman Matt Stahl (Manitowoc, WI) added 15 and 14 points respectively, career highs for both.
The Stars return to the court on Tuesday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m. when they host the MSOE Raiders before opening Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) on Wednesday, November 29 against Edgewood College.
