Post-season soccer awards begin to roll in

D3Kick.com announced the 2006 Division III Men’s Soccer post-season awards last weekend and the Dominican University Stars landed six players on the three Central Region All-Region teams and three players on the three All-American teams.

Junior defender Elvin Perez (Chicago, IL) and sophomore midfielder Plamen Pamukov (Addison, IL) led the way for the Stars as both were named to the Central Region All-Region First Team and the All-American Second Team. Sophomore forward Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) and sophomore goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa (Chicago, IL) both earned spots on the Central Region All-Region First Team with Kochanowski also being named to the All-American Third Team. Freshmen midfielders Arnes Rodriguez (Rosemont, IL) and Juan Saldana (O’Fallon, MO) were named to the All-Region second and third teams respectively.

Perez and Sliwa anchored the nation’s 15th best defense for the Stars, allowing just 12 goals in 24 games and posting 14 shutouts, including a string of eight straight shutouts spanning the final four games of the regular season, the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Tournament and into the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. Sliwa ranked 11th in the nation in goals against average (0.44), posting seven shutouts.

Pamukov, Kochanowski, Rodriguez and Saldana powered the nation’s seventh-best scoring offense, accounting for 61 of the team’s 87 goals and 50 of the team’s 83 assists. Kochanowski, the NAC Player of the Year, and Rodriguez, the NAC Rookie of the Year, ranked in the top 25 nationally in points per game. Kochanowski’s 2.25 points per game and 0.88 goals per game ranked him 16th and 22nd in the nation respectively. Rodriguez, the team’s leader in assists, ranked fifth in the nation in assists-per-game at 0.77 and 22nd in the nation in points per game, averaging 2.14 points per game.
