Men’s soccer racks up sixth straight victory
The Dominican University men’s soccer team, ranked tenth in the nation and second in the Central Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), picked up a pair of shutout victories last week to improve its record to 12-1-0 on the season. The Stars are currently riding a six-game winning streak, the team’s second six-game streak of the season.
Last Wednesday, the Stars easily handled neighborhood rival Concordia University Chicago 9-0. Freshman Juan Saldana (O’Fallon, MO) lead the way for the Stars, scoring three goals in a two-minute span. Saldana became just the tenth soccer player in NCAA history to tally three goals in less than two minutes.
Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) and Arnes Rodriguez (Rosemont, IL) each added a goal and two assists while Rigoberto Barajas (Cicero, IL), Eric Florance (Papillion, NE), Allan Camacho (Justice, IL) and Nick Tricase (Itasca, IL) rounded out the Stars’ scoring.
The Stars then defeated Lake Forest College 4-0 on Saturday. Freshman Stan Micic (Mt. Prospect, IL) notched the game-winning goal in just the ninth minute of play as the Stars cruised to the victory, out-shooting the Foresters 11-4.
Rodriguez, Plamen Pamukov (Addison, IL) and Nico Toro (Chesterfield, MO) each logged a goal for the Stars in the winning effort. Rodriguez also added two assists to move into the team lead with 11 assists in 13 games.
The Stars will look for their seventh consecutive victory as well as move to a perfect 7-0-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) as they travel to Aurora University on Tuesday. The Stars will then travel to the University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
