Siena Center Receives Grant for Project

Dominican University’s Siena Center has received a $15,000 grant from the Metanexus Institute to fund its proposed Albertus Magnus Society, a program designed to examine the intersection of religion and science. The grant was one of only 10 projects funded by the Institute within the United States and abroad.

The Albertus Magnus Society will be inaugurated with a lecture on “Evolving Science, Timeless Faith” on November 16 by John Haught, a world-renowned scholar on science, cosmology, ecology and religion and the author of the recently published Is Nature Enough? Meaning and Truth in the Age of Science (Cambridge University Press) and God After Darwin.

Dominican University established the Siena Center to engage the critical issues of church and society in the light of faith and scholarship. The center was named for St. Catherine of Siena, a 14th-century laywoman who worked for the reform of the church and justice in the world. Her passionate devotion to the central issues of church and society inspires the work of the center in its schedule of lectures, symposia, workshops, retreats, research and seminars.

Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Dominican offers 50 undergraduate academic programs in the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences and 17 graduate programs through the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the Brennan School of Business, the School of Education, the Graduate School of Social Work, and the Institute for Adult Learning.
