Women’s soccer gets back on track
After dropping just their third game of the season on Wednesday to Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) leader Aurora University, 3-0, the Stars got back on track with a 9-0 win over visiting Alverno College on Saturday.
Sophomore sensation Mayra Camacho (Summit, IL), ranked eighth in the nation at 1.42 goals per game, lead the Stars’ offensive attack with 5 goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal in the 10th minute. Junior Jackie Montes (Chicago, IL) and freshmen Kelly Adler (Naperville, IL), Stephanie Starkey (Lake in the Hills, IL) and Dulce Melo (Chicago, IL) rounded out Dominican’s scoring, tallying one goal apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper Jacqui Lani (Green Bay, WI) went untested to pick up her seventh shutout of the season and improve her goals against average to 0.60, as the Stars outshot the Alverno College Inferno 40-1.
Lani was much more active in the Stars’ 3-0 loss at Aurora on Wednesday, recording 13 saves while allowing just three goals to the NAC’s top offensive team, scoring over 7.5 goals per game in conference play.
Dominican managed to keep the Spartan’s high-powered offense off the board over the game’s first 53 minutes, before surrendering three goals in the final 37 minutes to the nation’s fourth-best offense.
The Stars now sit at 9-3-2 on the season and are 7-2-0 in the NAC with just three regular season games remaining, including two NAC contests. On Tuesday, the Stars will host Benedictine University for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff. The Stars will then host Lakeland College, the winner of the 2005 Lake Michigan Conference tournament, on Saturday, before wrapping up the regular season on Tuesday, October 24 at Elmhurst College at 3:00 p.m.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
