Men’s soccer topples Spartans, Titans
The Dominican University men’s soccer team picked up a pair of impressive Central Region wins last week over the Aurora University Spartans (9-2-3, 5-1-0) and University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh Titans (5-5-3). The Stars, ranked 9th in the nation and second in the Central Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), now stand at 14-1-0 overall and are a perfect 7-0-0 in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play with just three regular season games remaining.
On Wednesday, the Stars stomped the Spartans 4-1 at Aurora. Sophomore forward Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) logged two goals, including the game’s first goal, scored in the tenth minute of play. After an Aurora goal, freshman Arnes Rodriguez (Rosemont, IL) tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 43rd minute. Rodriguez tallied a goal and two assists on the day while sophomore Eric Florance (Papillion, NE) notched a goal and an assist to round out the Stars’ scoring.
The Stars continued their road show, traveling to Oshkosh, WI on Saturday, disposing of the Titans with a 2-0 shutout win. It took just 16 seconds to score the game-winner, as sophomore Plamen Pamukov (Addison, IL) netted the first of his two first-half goals on the game’s opening kickoff.
The pair of wins pushed the Stars’ current winning streak to a season-high eight games and they will look to extend that streak when the host Benedictine University on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. The Stars will clinch the inaugural NAC men’s soccer championship and secure the top-seed in the conference tournament with a win on Wednesday.
