Dominican University’s Brennan School of Business will present a lecture on doing business in China by James L. McGregor, former chief executive of Dow Jones’ China business operations, on Monday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. The free lecture will be held in the university’s Priory Campus auditorium, 7200 W. The journalist-turned-businessman has lived in China for two decades, beginning in 1985 when he backpacked through the country while reporting for Knight-Ridder Newspapers. His interest in Asia began at the age of 18 when he served as an infantry soldier in Vietnam.
McGregor was chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in China in 1996 and served for a decade as a governor of the organization. He was a pioneer of the Chinese Internet and served as an advisor to many Chinese Internet startups. From 2000 to 2003, he was a partner and the China managing director for GIV Venture Partners, a $140 million venture capital fund specializing in technology investments in China and India.
Founder and chairman of JL McGregor & Company LLC, an investment partnership focused on China, McGregor also serves as senior China advisor for Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide and is a senior director of Stonebridge International LLC, an international strategic advisory firm headed by former US National Security Advisor Sandy Berger.
