Women’s soccer preps for NAC Tournament
The Dominican University women’s soccer team wrapped up the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) regular season last week with a win over Benedictine University 2-0 before losing to Lakeland College 2-1 in double overtime. The Stars have clinched a spot in the NAC women’s soccer tournament, and will host a first round game on either Friday, October 27 or Saturday, October 28 pending the outcome of remaining conference games.
Mayra Camacho (Summit, IL) and Kelly Adler (Naperville, IL) scored one goal apiece in the Stars’ 2-0 win over Benedictine last Tuesday. Freshman Lauren Ruebe (Mt. Prospect, IL) assisted on both goals while freshman goalkeeper Jacqui Lani (Green Bay, WI) picked up her eighth shutout of the season, eclipsing the school’s record for shutouts in a season set by Nicole Miller in 2003.
Camacho then scored her team-leading 24th goal of the season in the Stars’ 2-1 loss to Lakeland College in double-overtime on Saturday. Lani recorded five saves in net for the Stars before surrendering the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute of play.
The Stars’ now stand at 10-4-2 overall and finished the NAC regular season with an 8-3-0 record.
