Men’s soccer rolls through season
The Dominican University men’s soccer team completed an undefeated season in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) with a pair of victories in conference play last week, securing the conference title and the top-seed in the upcoming NAC men’s soccer tournament.
On Wednesday, the Stars rolled over the Benedictine University Eagles 8-0. Rigoberto Barajas (Cicero, IL) started the Stars’ offensive onslaught in the fourth minute of play with assists from Arnes Rodriguez (Rosemont, IL) and Plamen Pamukov (Addison, IL).
The Stars added three more goals in the first half, two by sophomore Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) and one by Pamukov, holding a 4-0 lead heading into the second half. Freshman Nico Toro (Chesterfield, MO) tallied a second-half hat-trick while Juan Saldana netted his eighth goal of the season to cap the Stars’ scoring.
The Eagles could never mount an offensive attack. The Stars held a 22-2 advantage in shots and a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Stars then overpowered the Lakeland College Muskies 6-0 in the final NAC regular season contest of the season. Kochanowski, Barajas, Pamukov and Saldana all tallied goals for the Stars as did freshman Zlatan Hodzic (Chicago, IL). The Stars again controlled the game, out-shooting the Muskies 29-3 and holding an 11-1 advantage in corners.
The Stars will host University of Wisconsin–Whitewater before hosting a semifinal game in the NAC tournament on Wednesday, November 1. The game time and the Stars’ opponent is yet to be decided.
