Men’s soccer team tops UW-Whitewater
The Dominican University men’s soccer team defeated University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 1-0 on a goal by sophomore Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) in the 63rd minute on a wet, sloppy field at Dominican University.
Kochanowski, the Stars’ leading scorer with 20 goals in 18 games, tallied the lone goal of the game after fellow sophomore Nick Wisniewski (Carol Stream, IL) played a long ball up the far side. Kochanowski then beat one defender and slid the ball past E.J. Sesselmann, the Warhawks’ keeper.
Sesselmann was tested the entire afternoon, logging seven saves as the Stars out-shot the Warhawks 20-10 and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The win improves Dominican’s overall record to 17-1-0 on the season while the loss drops UW-Whitewater to 10-5-1.
Dominican, the top-seed in the upcoming Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Tournament, will sit idle in the first-round of the tournament before hosting a semi-final contest on Wednesday, November 1 at 1:30 p.m. The Stars will host the lowest remaining seed, either #4 Edgewood College (10-4-2, 6-3-0), #5 Benedictine University (7-7-4, 4-3-2) or #6 Wisconsin Lutheran College (7-9-1, 4-4-1), on the Stars’ West Campus Field where Dominican posted an 11-1-0 record during the regular season.
“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
