With an array of artists ranging from country singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash to guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque, the Performing Arts Center at Dominican University announces an upcoming season filled with traditional favorites and cutting-edge talent.

Just ten miles west of Chicago’s Loop, Dominican’s Lund Auditorium offers the intimate sightlines, warm acoustics and stylish atmosphere of the best concert halls. Parking is always free. For tickets and more information, contact the box office at (708) 488-5000.

The 2006-2007 season includes a Traditions Series, Chamber Sessions and a Theatre Arts Series. The Tradition Series features Rosanne Cash, the Paul Winter Consort, and Rhonda Vincent. The Chamber Series includes concerts with Edgar Meyer & Chris Thile; Mike Marshall & Hamilton de Holanda; and Fareed Haque, Kala Ramnath & Friends. The Theatre Arts Series includes productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Othello and Upstaged by Christopher Durang.

Kicking off the season’s Tradition Series, Rosanne Cash will perform songs from her latest album Black Cadillac along with other favorites on Saturday, September 23 at 7:30 p.m. Using the new album as a roadmap, her concert will invite the audience on a stirring trip through the images, sounds, words and music of Cash’s personal and musical legacy. The concert experience will intertwine sound design, spoken word and video projections with intimate acoustic and full-band performances. The Grammy Award-winning Cash has released 11 albums over 20 years and charted 11 number-one singles. This concert will be Cash’s only Chicagoland appearance in 2006. Jumpstarting the concert will be the fast-rising Americana roots trio The Greencards. Tickets are $37/ $47.

Paul Winter Consort will present its much-lauded Winter Solstice Celebration on Saturday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. Led by saxophonist Paul Winter, the consort combines elements of African, Asian and South American cultures with jazz, folk and classical music. Started more than 25 years ago, the Winter Solstice Celebration has become one of the most popular holiday traditions at New York City’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine and on National Public Radio. Tickets are $25/ $35.

Rhonda Vincent, one of the most acclaimed and popular figures on today’s bluegrass scene, will appear in concert on Friday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. An accomplished instrumentalist (mandolin, fiddle, guitar) and a heartfelt songwriter, Vincent first appeared on stage at the age of five, released her first single at eight, and has since collected over 40 awards. She is the six-time winner of the International Bluegrass Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year Award. Tickets are $22/ $32.

Returning to the Dominican University stage after two years, Edgar Meyer and Chris Thile will start off the Chamber Sessions with their concert on Saturday, January 20 at 7:30 p.m. The versatile string bass player Meyer will team up with mandolin prodigy Thile of the “newgrass” ensemble Nickel Creek. These two boundary-shattering performers will carve new territory as they showcase original compositions. General admission tickets are $28.

Mike Marshall and Hamilton de Holanda, two of the world’s most accomplished mandolinists, will take the audience on a musical tour from Berkeley to Brazil during their concert on Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. Marshall is a master of the mandolin, guitar and violin whose playing is as imaginative and adventurous as it is technically thrilling. Playing a unique 10-string mandolin, de Holanda is a master of improvisation with amazing speed and a vibrant stage personality. Following a sold-out tour, the duo has recorded a CD to be released later this year. General admission tickets are $22.

Guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque will present a kaleidoscope of musical styles in his concert on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. Moving easily between jazz and classical guitar, his versatility has put him in demand with many prominent musicians. The Pakistani/Chilean Haque is a world traveler whose natural eclecticism is the hallmark of his music. Among the musicians joining him on stage will be Indian violin phenomenon Kala Ramnath. General admission tickets are $22.

The Theatre Arts Series will kick off with Fiddler on the Roof , one of the most famous stage and film musicals of all time, on Friday and Saturday, November 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 19 at 3:00 p.m. The series will continue with a production of Othello , Shakespeare’s most passionate tragedy, on Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, February 25 at 3:00 p.m. The series closes with Christopher Durang’s Upstaged , a showcase of classic theatre parodies, on Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, April 15 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets for the theatre series are $15.
