DU Offers Evening Option for Nutrition Students
Based on demand, Dominican University is now offering students who want to pursue a career in the nutrition and dietetics field the option of completing coursework for a bachelor’s degree or certificate during the evening while working full-time during the day. Dominican’s is the only program in the Chicago metropolitan area to offer this evening option.
The evening program, which is accredited by the American Dietetic Association, will be inaugurated this fall with the NUTRITION 375: Food Service Purchasing class on Tuesday evenings. Fall classes begin August 28. The university will offer NUTRITION 250: Basic Nutrition during the spring term.
“We have received numerous inquiries regarding an evening program in nutrition and dietetics because so many people seem to be considering this as a second career option,” explained Dr. Judith Beto, chairperson of Dominican’s nutrition department. “This program allows people to maintain their jobs while going to school.”
Students who enroll in the program can elect to complete coursework for either a bachelor’s degree or a certificate in nutrition and dietetics. Following their coursework they will be eligible for serving an ADA-accredited nine- to twelve-month dietetic internship, after which they are eligible for take the examination for registered dietitians.
