Mercado Named LMC Player of the Week
The Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) named Dominican University sophomore Nate Mercado (Chicago, IL) the baseball player of the week. Mercado was red-hot at the plate as the Stars won five games last week. He went 7-for-16, hitting .438 on the week with five extra-base hits.
In the leadoff spot, Mercado drove in eight runs and scored nine on the week. He posted a team-best .813 slugging percentage and logged an on-base percentage of .600. Mercado was also flawless in the field and on the bases during the week, logging seven stolen bases in seven attempts and did not commit an error in the field in 30 chances, with 21 assists and nine putouts at shortstop.
In his top performance of the week, Mercado banged out three hits, including two triples, in the Stars’ 13-0 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College last Thursday. He drove in four runs and scored twice and logged one stolen base.
On the year, Mercado is hitting .322 with 12 RBI and 16 runs scored.
