Baseball Making National Statement

Dominican University junior right-hander Bret Dvorak (Elmwood Park, IL) leads a pack of Dominican University baseball players in the national rankings. Dvorak (5-1) currently boasts a 0.72 earned-run-average in 50.1 innings pitched, ranking him third in the nation for NCAA Division III pitchers.

Joining Dvorak in the rankings is sophomore Mike Eifel (Midlothian, IL) with a 1.86 earned-run-average, ranking him 67th in the nation, and averaging 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings, placing him 24th in the nation.

Offensively, sophomores Nate Mercado (Chicago, IL) and Derek Manuel (Spring Grove, IL) rank amongst the best hitters in the nation. Mercado has legged out five triples in 26 games, ranking him 27th in country and his 21 walks in 100 at-bats places him 49th in the nation. Manuel has become one of the toughest outs in Division III college baseball. His one strikeout per 30 at-bats ranks him 26th nationally.

As a team, the Stars rank 23rd in the nation in double plays per game, averaging 1.07 double plays per nine-inning game. On the offensive side, the Stars currently rank 61st with 57 stolen bases in 28 games and 73rd in the nation with 11 triples.

The Stars are currently 14-14 overall and 8-4 in the Lake Michigan Conference with just 10 games remaining on the schedule before the conference tournament. This weekend the Stars continue their quest for the LMC tournament as they open a three-game series with Concordia University (WI) on Friday in Maywood, IL.
