PAC Presents A Doll’s House

Dominican University’s Performing Arts Center will present Henrik Ibsen’s groundbreaking drama, A Doll’s House, the weekend of Friday, April 7 through Sunday, April 9 in the Eloise Martin Recital Hall, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.

Written in Munich in 1879, A Doll’s House proved to be Ibsen’s groundbreaking work. Charged with the fever of the 1848 revolutions in Europe, the story of Nora Helmer’s journey of self-discovery and struggle against the oppressive constraints of her marriage and the dictates of society was a harbinger of the realistic modern prose drama.

A Doll’s House revolves around Nora Helmer, a vibrant young housewife who is completely dependent on Torvald, her husband of eight years. In order to save Torvald from debt and illness, Nora arranges a loan, without his knowledge, by forging his signature. Torvald is furious when he discovers what Nora has done. The illusions behind their marriage are exposed, and Nora wakes to feelings of self-awareness for the first time in her life. This realization leads to one of the most famous and shocking climaxes in 19th century drama.

Join the cast and crew of the play for a free discussion after the Friday night production. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8:00 p.m.; the Sunday performance begins at 3:00 p.m. For more information or to order tickets, contact the Dominican University box office at (708) 488-5000. General admission tickets are $15.
